J.F. Comer Landscape Design is based off of three generations in the Landscape Industry dedicated to upholding the highest standards in proper landscape techniques. Our passion, determination, education, and combined 40+ years’ experience in the field helps to create Dreamscapes for our clients to enjoy for years to come.



Our Story...

Comer Nursery of Farmington CT was founded by Martin J. Comer in 1958.  Martin (or Matty) was an Irish immigrant who moved to the U.S. in his 20’s in pursuit of the American Dream.  Through hard work and determination, he achieved his goals and got his Horticulture Certificate from Ratcliffe Hicks School of Agriculture(UCONN).  Soon thereafter, he bought land in Farmington and opened up Comer Nursey Inc. where he raised his family.

 

John, Martin’s youngest son grew up on the nursery learning at a very young age, the tips and tricks of the trade.  Once John finished high school, he followed in his father’s footsteps and attended the Ratcliffe Hicks School of Agriculture, achieving his Horticulture Certificate.  He ran the nursery with his brother Marty for 15 years before the garden center closed its doors and opened new ones to the asphalt industry. John and Marty ran Comer Contracting together for 20 years until 2004, when John wanted to get back to his roots.  In 2004, John started John F. Comer Landscape Design LLC, accompanied by his youngest son Sean.     

 

Sean had the dream of following in both his father’s and his grandfather’s footsteps. In 2015 Sean graduated from Stockbridge School of Agriculture, UMass Amherst with his degree in Landscape Contracting.  Like his Grandfather and Father, he loves the green industry and has a passion for turning peoples’ yards into something they love and cherish.
